
Artwork wanted for “Kutani Coloring Sheets Contest” that is conducted for the 11th time this year.
In this contest, designs from the traditional art of Kutani ceramics are turned into coloring sheets that can be enjoyed by both adults and children. Participants can experience the beauty of Kutani patterns while enjoying the fun of creating their own original artworks.
This year’s assignment is “The Moon Circle. The Way Back Home”, a work by Kazunori Takegoshi. You can view the original artwork in the Prussian Blue Hall at Kutani porcelain Art Museum | Gosai |.
This piece depicts a large moon in the upper left illuminating a horse and a man riding it under moonlight, evoking a tranquil scene of their journey home.

About the Contest

Assignment
“The Moon Circle. The Way Back Home” A work by Kazunori Takegoshi
A fifth-generation master of a distinguished Kutani ware kiln founded by Zenbei Takegoshi, who studied under Shoza Kutani, the renowned potter credited with reviving Kutani porcelain.
One of the leading figures in contemporary Kutani ware, he received the prestigious Japan Art Academy Prize in 2024.
His signature series, "Distant Days" and "The Moon Circle. The Way Back Home" are among the works most closely associated with him. These pieces depict the vivid impressions of a blue moonlit night and the landscapes of the Silk Road that he experienced in the ancient Uzbek city of Samarkand.
This work was created in 2014 and received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award at the 53rd Japan Contemporary Arts and Crafts Exhibition.
